Working....

Man, is this the stroy of my life. Since leaving Las Vegas (I think there is a movie by this name), I have had 1 day off:( No violins please. I really should be grateful I have a job.

Thankfully, work has a computer so when I am not busy delivering babies, I am searching for travel locations to here:

Santa Barbara, Concert and a Wedding

What an awesome time in Santa Barbara! The weather was sunny and warm.

We arrived at our cute B & B.

just in time to relax a little and have a snack before we headed out for the concert.

We had dinner where the concert was being held. Not super impressed by the main course but, our dessert was fab!

Then it was time for music!

So Awesome. I love this girl band. The music is intense, passionate and full of love.

We talk to Rene, the band member we had met in Laguna Beach. She remembered us and was genuinely happy we came. She graciously took a picture with us:)

The next morning we had a nice homemade breakfast at the B & B, carrot pancakes...Yum! The coffee, not so yum and MaMa needs her coffee in the morning.
The solution... Starbucks!

We had the privilege of running into one of the band members in Starbucks. We chatted for a few minutes and then we had to leave town. WAH!

After 6 looonnnggg hours in the car (traffic was horrid!) we picked up our boys for some pizza and fun. Lil dude scored a lot of tickets in the arcade and came away with some fun stuff.

Saturday evening, one of the nurse I work with got married. I was honored to be invited and excited as this was my first *social* outing with Mr. J!

The happy couple

Another Happy couple!

I went up for the bouquet toss assuring Mr. J that I NEVER catch it.

And I did;)

>
The rest of the evening, I danced with my Mister ( that's MISTER, not SISTER) and had a most wonderful time.

Good thing, because now it's back to work and a busy, busy schedule, with one exception.... Vegas! Unfortunately, my time is greatly shorten there due to the shortage at work. But, I plan to make soem fabulous memories;)

Something to look forward too!!

I have been working way too much. One of our Midwives broke her finger and we are already down 2 midwives! F!

I have been known to be a workaholic. I work hard so I can play hard. But, with a man in my life, I find that I'm not as eager to work a lot and I'm tired. yet, I have no choice to work now. We have our own practice and if one midwife calls off, is on vacation or breaks her fucking finger, the rest of us have to make up for it.

But tomorrow, tomorrow I have a day off. I actually have two days off.

In a row!! woo hoo!!

So, me and my Mister are going to Santa Barbara to see Blame Sallie, an all girl band, play at a local restaurant.

We met one of the band members when we stayed down in Laguna Beach (She is the second one on the right side). She gave us a CD and we loved it. I signed up for newsletter and saw this gig and decided we were going!!

We booked a cute B & B. Quiet. Romantic. Fun;)

Tougher day yesterday

When it rains, it pours!

Worked Sunday, busy, busy day. The night and wee morning was no better.

At 1:07AM I delivered a baby that was very, very sick, her Mother had an infection of unknown origin.
Totally gut wrenching.

When I left work yesterday, the baby was still critical. The parents heartbroken, I was a mess.
Emotionally exhausted, I drove the hour home and cried all the way. This is when I don't like my job.

I had to come back to work this morning and I am thrilled to report that the baby is way better and expected to make a full recovery. She was delivered in time to treat the infection already raging in her tiny body while she was still in her Mom.

I spent time with them this afternoon and cried tears of joy. Tears because she came in when she did. Tears because I kept her. Tears because she went fairly fast. Tears because the baby is better. Tears of relief and joy!

This is when I love my job.

Moments like this

I actually get paid to bring beautiful babies like this one into our world.

Life is good!

Back to work

I returned to work today so my trip postings will have to wait until tomorrow.

I love my job and with every vacation I am actually excited about returning to work.

Until this time.

We had some work drama before I left so I wasn't anxious to return to the situation. Seems, though time as smooth things out some and tension is less. Seriously though, why is it that when you work with a bunch of Woman there is so much drama?? At times, I feel like I'm in high school.

I believe this round is over but I'm sure there will be more.

As the gurney turns:)

Work humor

Work has sure kicked my ass over the last month.
I think the last 2 weeks have been particularly tough because my days off were spent with my sis at her medical appointments.

I would not have missed the appointments for anything but it did get my ass.

I'm a Midwife, delivering babies in the hospital setting. My shift when I am in the hospital is 24 hours. I live an hour away so on my 24's I need to stay in the hospital.

I LOVE,LOVE my job. If we are meant to have a "calling" in life, this is definitely mine.

I know I said I LOVE my job (or was that LOVE,LOVE?) but the other night I was way tired and a bit cranky. I was quiet all day (always a bad sign). I was ready to settle in for the night and the phone rang. the nurse says I have a pt. in labor.

I drag my cranky ass out to the nurses' station and put a fake smile on before I enter the patients. room.

As I open the door, I'm greeted by this:
(all names changed for privacy)
girl: "Tom, I want an epidural."
Tom:"honey, you don't want an epidural. The feeling of pain is all in your head. Remember your birth plan?"
girl:(crying) I didn't know it would hurt this bad. seriously, I can't do..sobs louder now..fuck, here's another one."
Tom:"take a cleansing breath. Okay, the contrac
He's interrupted by blood curdling scream.
Girl is sobbing now. "Oh God, oh God.. I..I think..

And just like something out of a scary movie, she spews green shit ALL over TOM. It is literally dripping off him.

It was one of the most disgusting and funniest things I have ever seen.

Tom excused himself rather quickly. I heard later he threw up in the bathroom.

Girl got her epidural.

She delivered at 4 am:( F!
